It’s official, Android and iOS app advertisers can now track app downloads.  Android app marketers have been able to track in-app downloads for some time now.  As of today, announced on Inside AdWords, iOS advertisers can now also track in-app downloads!

Why tracking matters?

Without tracking enabled, advertisers do not know which online marketing efforts result in more conversions.  Such tracking solutions is available for all online marketing efforts, not just for apps, and should be used as part of any professional online marketing strategy.

All internet advertisers should track conversions, be it – leads, signups, sales, or phone calls. Using incomplete data, as a  lack of tracking solutions, is equivalent to using a map with holes. You might get where you want to be eventually, but do not be surprised if you take a few wrong turns or run into surprise obstacles, and ultimately spend more time and energy getting there.

Take Advantage of App Tracking

iOS app download tracking instructions

  1. Sign into AdWords;
  2. Click on the ‘Tools and Analysis’ tab;
  3. In the page that opens, click on the “Conversions Tab’;
  4. Click ‘+ New Conversion’;
    1. Name your conversion;
    2. Select ‘Mobile app download’, save and continue;
    3. Pick the ‘iOS platform, save and continue;
    4. Select if you or someone else will make changes to the code.
    5. Copy or email the SDK and code snippet.
  5. Install a small SDK and code snippet in your app;
    1. The code snippet must be installed into your app’s didFinishLaunchingWithOptions to call the SDK.
  6. Click ‘Done’ and conversion data will start displaying within 24 hours.

  1. Sign into AdWords;
